The past can sometimes provide lessons about the future, but when it comes to the growing demand for electricity, many jurisdictions are entering uncharted territory. In Ontario, dramatic increase in the demand for power, driven by the growing electrification of transportation and industry, such as electric arc furnaces for steelmaking, means that the province’s ability to meet demand for clean, reliable power for its growing economy is not guaranteed.
Combine this growth with a potential moratorium on natural gas generation, and the province is set to face a serious potential supply crunch.
