SUMMARY:CANDU System Chemistry Course-Virtual Online
DESCRIPTION:  \nInstructors:\nOlga Palazhchenko (UNB-CNER)\, Jordan Lyons (UNB-CNER/PLNGS) and Pam Yakabuskie (CNL) \n  \nCourse Description\nThis is an introductory to intermediate level course\, designed to provide a solid base of understanding of the synergy between plant chemistry and material corrosion/degradation. The focus is on CANDU systems\, including the objectives of chemistry control\, corrosion issues\, and corrosion mitigation strategies. Relevant “real-life” examples will be provided along with short-form self-assessments and ample time for Q&A to ensure maximum material retention. \n  \nCourse Outcomes\nBy the end this course\, the participant shall gain: \n\nKnowledge of the mechanisms of the major forms of corrosion that affect nuclear plant materials;\nAn understanding of chemistry control objectives for various CANDU systems;\nAn appreciation for the relationship between the chemistry\, design\, and materials of construction in major CANDU plant systems\n\n  \nCourse Topics\n  \nGeneral Chemistry Overview (1.5 h\, including small self-assessment) \n\npH\nConductivity\nPurification and Ion Exchange\nWater Radiolysis –\nCorrosion Principles (2 h\, including small self-assessment)\nUniform Corrosion\n\n\nGalvanic Corrosion\nPitting and Crevice Corrosion\nStress Corrosion Cracking (SCC)\nFlow Accelerated Corrosion\n\n  \nSystem Overview (3 h + 30 minutes for wrap up) \n\nPrimary Heat Transport System\n\nChemistry Control\nCorrosion Issues\n\nActivity Transport\nRIHT Rise\n\n\n\n\nModerator\n\nChemistry Control –\n\n\nSecondary Heat Transport System\n\nChemistry Control\nCorrosion Issues\n\n\n\n  \n\nAuxiliary Systems – \n\nCalandria Vault and End Shield Cooling System\nLiquid Zone Control\n\n\n\n  \n  \n  \nRegistration\nClick here to register online \nRegistration Fees \n\n\n\n\nCategory \n\n\nBefore Nov. 2nd 2020 \n\n\nAfter Nov. 2nd  2020 \n\n\n\n\nCNS member \n\n\n$150 \n\n\n$200 \n\n\n\n\nNon CNS Member \n\n\n$200 \n\n\n$250 \n\n\n\n\nCNS retiree \n\n\n$75 \n\n\n$100 \n\n\n\n\nCNS full time student member \n\n\n$75 \n\n\n$85 \n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n  \n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n
