SUMMARY:International Conference on Mathematics and Computational Methods Applied to Nuclear Science and Engineering (M&C 2011)
DESCRIPTION:The International Conference on Mathematics and Computational Methods applied to Nuclear Science and Engineering (MC 2011) is a part of a series of topical meetings organized by the Mathematics and Computation Division of the American Nuclear Society (ANS) and this 2011 version is promoted by the Latin American Section (LAS). \nAs humankind seeks abundant and environmentally responsible energy in the coming decades\, the renaissance of nuclear power will undoubtedly become reality as it is a proven technology and has the potential to generate virtually limitless energy with no greenhouse gas emissions during operations. In addition\, basic research and nuclear technology applications in chemistry\, physics\, biology\, agriculture\, health and engineering have been showing their importance in the innovation of nuclear technology applications with sustainability.  \nMC 2011 will provide an international forum to scientists from around the world to present their most recent work and exchange ideas on a powerful class of methodologies extensively used for solving mathematical models of physical phenomena and processes applied to nuclear science and engineering. One of the aims is to promote new research tools and procedures that help link Mathematics\, Applied Sciences and Technology. Therefore\, the MC 2011 will offer an opportunity for direct information exchange between participants from both academia and industry.  \nBeing held in Brazil\, MC 2011 provides a forum to cellebrate the 10th Anniversary of Angra 2 Nuclear Power Unit commercial operation startup on February 1\, 2001\, located in Angra dos Reis city\, state of Rio de Janeiro.  \nParticipation in the MC 2011 will also provide an opportunity to visit Rio de Janeiro\, the wonderful city\, which is the mosaic of enchantments scattered between the sea and the mountains. \nThe interdisciplinary MC 2011 technical program will consist of plenary sessions\, workshops\, parallel oral presentation sessions and poster sessions.  \nPapers are solicited in the following subject categories: \n– Accelerator and Subcritical Systems– Advanced Nuclear Reactor Concepts– Atmospheric and Ocean Radiative Transfer– Computational Fluid Dynamics and Thermal Hydraulics– Deterministic and Stochastic Neutral and Charged Particle Transport Modeling– High-Fidelity Multiphysics Simulations– Medical Physics– Nuclear Chemistry– Nuclear Criticality Safety– Nuclear Data Evaluation and Application– Nuclear Fuel Cycle– Nuclear Fuels– Nuclear Geophysics– Nuclear Materials Sciences– Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Homeland Security– Nuclear Production of Hydrogen– Nuclear Radiation Shielding and Dosimetry– Nuclear Reactor Analysis– Optimization\, Data Assimilation and Artificial Intelligence– Plasma Physics/Fusion– Radiobiology– Structural Mechanics– Uncertainty Quantification– Verification and Validation

SUMMARY:CNS CANDU Reactor Physics Course
DESCRIPTION:CNS CANDU Reactor Physics Course\n2011 May 16-18(Mon-Wed)Toronto Airport Marriott Hotel901 Dixon RoadToronto\, ON M9W 1J5 \n  \nCourse Overview\nReactor physics plays a key and central role among various disciplines involved in the design and operation of nuclear reactors. It deals with understanding the fundamental physical phenomena characterizing nuclear reactors\, and provides needed input to and interaction with all aspects of design\, operation and safety-analysis activities. To address the training needs of the Canadian nuclear industry in this fundamental area\, the CNS is happy to offer the CANDU Reactor Physics course. \nThe course introduces the main topics in the CANDU reactor physics discipline and covers key elements of the chief computer codes used in related analyses. It is ideally suited for beginning professionals but is also beneficial to those individuals who are active in specific design or operation activities. It is also beneficial to experienced professionals who wish to broaden their knowledge beyond their own field of expertise.  \nContinental breakfast\, buffet lunch\, and coffee breaks are provided each day.  There will also be a banquet on the second evening of the course.  The after-dinner speech at the banquet will highlight a timely topic in this particular field in the Canadian Nuclear industry. \nTopics to be covered in the course include: \n\nFundamental concepts\nLattice and supercell physics \nReactor core-design analysis\nFuel-management design and operation\nFast and slow kinetics\nLicensing issues\nOperational physics\nACR Physics\n\nA panel has also been constituted to discuss advances in related analysis techniques. \nThis course is eligible for Continuing Education Units in the context of the Engineering Institute of Canada Continuing Education program. \n \nBrochure and Tentative Program\nClick here for the preliminary brochure and course program \n \nRegistration\nClick HERE to register for the CNS CANDU Reactor Physics Course 2011 May 16-18 \n \nHotel Reservations\nA special room rate of $159 (+ tax) + $10 parking per night is available at the Toronto Airport Marriott Hotel.  If you are flying into Toronto\, the hotel has a complimentary shuttle service from the airport.  Book early!  To receive the special hotel rate\, you must book by April 18.  Call 1-800-905-2811 and request the Canadian Nuclear Society Course Group Booking. You can also reserve your room on-line via the following dedicated link: Toronto Airport Marriott Hotel
