SUMMARY:CNS CANDU Fuel Technology Course
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview\nAim of Course \nThe aim of this course is to provide an understanding of the CANDU fuel design\, performance and operation\, and how the fuel interacts with the interfacing systems. The course will be of great interest to the fuel designers\, manufacturers\, station operations\, fuel channel and fuel handling system designers\, safety analysts\, performance and inspection staff. \nCourse Outline \nThis course will provide an overview of the CANDU fuel design\, performance and operation\, with a special emphasis on the systems that interface with it. Fuel\, more than any other reactor components\, interfaces with many different systems. This course is designed to enlighten those involved in fuel design and performance of the interfaces; and vice versa. The course will describe the design of the bundle\, the detailed nuclear physics of its operation\, the thermal-hydraulic performance\, the fuel handling\, fuel and physics of the reactor\, the discharge and storage of the fuel. \nFee Structure\nAll fees include GST \n\nCNS Member $730.00\nNon-Member $835.00\nStudent $360.00\n\n\nCourse Registration\nClick HERE to register for the CNS CANDU Fuel Technology Course 2009 October 5-7 \nThis will create a pop-up window for the conference from www.signupmaster.com (a secure site). Users will get an immediate receipt if they pay by credit card. \nHotels\nThe Course Hotel is the Hilton Garden Inn\, Oakville. \nPlease make accommodation arrangements\, if required\, directly with the hotel (905) 829-1145. Special group rate of $124 + tax per night is available for course participants if booked before September 21\, 2009. Refer to “CNS Fuel Technology Course” at time of booking \n  \n

SUMMARY:CNS CANDU Reactor Safety Course
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview\nSafety is of primary consideration in the design and operation of nuclear reactors. If nuclear power generation is to survive\, it has to meet ever-increasing safety demands. To address the safety-training needs of the Canadian nuclear industry\, the CNS is once again happy to offer the CANDU Reactor Safety course. Previous offerings of this course were very successful and enrolment has been constantly high. This course is eligible for Continuing Education Units in the context of the Engineering Institute of Canada Continuing Education program. \nThe course provides an introduction to CANDU reactor safety and licensing principles\, at the same time offering an overview of the major systems in a CANDU plant. The course is ideally suited for beginning professionals\, but also beneficial to experienced professionals who wish to broaden their knowledge beyond their own field of expertise. \nContinental breakfast\, buffet lunch\, and coffee breaks are provided each day. There will also be a banquet on the second evening of the course. The after-dinner speech at the banquet will highlight a timely topic in the Canadian Nuclear industry. \nTopics to be covered in the course include: \n\nDesign and licensing fundamentals\nCore-physics safety analysis\nThermalhydraulics\nSafety-related systems\nDeterministic and probabilistic safety analyses\nSevere core-damage assessment\nSafety R&D\n\n\nFee Structure\nAll fees include GST \n\nCNS Member $693.00 [Must be a CNS member in good standing]\nNon-Member $798.00\nStudent or CNS retiree $315.00\n\n\nCourse Registration\nClick HERE to register for the CNS CANDU Reactor Safety Course 2009 September 14-16 \nThis will create a pop-up window for the conference from www.signupmaster.com (a secure site). Users will get an immediate receipt if they pay by credit card. \n  \nHotels\nThe Course Hotel is the Toronto Marriott Airport Hotel\, Toronto\, shown in the interactive map below.   A special room rate of $139 + $10 parking per night is available. To receive the special hotel rate\, you must book by August 27 2009.   Call 1-800-905-2811 and request the Canadian Nuclear Society Course Group Booking.
