There is growing international interest and activity in the development of small nuclear reactor technology.  This meeting will provide participants with an opportunity to share ideas and exchange information on new developments. \nThis Technical Meeting will cover topics of interest to designers\, operators\, researchers and analysts involved in the design\, development and deployment of small reactors for power generation and research. A special session is planned to focus on small modular reactors (SMR) for generating electricity and process heat\, particularly in small grids and remote locations. On the last day of the Technical Meeting (November 9)\, AECL will host a tour of the Chalk River Laboratories for all interested attendees. The tour will include the ZED-2 and NRU reactors. \nFollowing the success of the first Technical Meeting in November 2010\, which captured numerous accomplishments of low-power critical facilities and small reactors\, the second Technical Meeting is dedicated to the achievements\, capabilities\, and future prospects of small reactors.  This meeting also celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Nuclear Power Demonstration (NPD) reactor which was the first small reactor (20 MWe) to generate electricity in Canada. \nRegistration\nPlease note that the Chalk River Tour is now full\, and cannot take any more registrations.Registration closed \nCNS Member: $550 Early-bird – $620 after Sept 15th.Non-CNS Member- $650 Early-bird – $720 after Sept 15th.Students- $200 Early-bird – $220after Sept 15th. \nDraft Program\nClick here for the draft program (PDF 393KB) \nTable-Top Exhibits\nThere is an opportunity for a few table-top exhibits Nov. 7 & 8 at the 2nd International Technical Meeting on Small Reactors\, which will be held at the Albert at Bay Hotel in Ottawa\, Ontario. \nAn exhibit space with one 6-ft table\, 2 chairs and a waste basket will be provided.  The exhibit fee for the two days will be $500 + 13% HST = $565.  One exhibit attendant will have access to the Conference meals.  However\, participation in the conference sessions will require full registration to the Meeting. \nIf your organisation is interested in this opportunity\, please communicate with Ben Rouben\, CNS Executive Director\, at roubenb@alum.mit.edu.     \nTopics of Interest\nPresentations related to the following topics are of interest to this Technical Meeting: \n\nSafety and Licensing\nReactor Physics (physics code validation\, bias and uncertainty\, benchmarking\, etc.)\nThermalhydraulics (passive safety\, heat pipes\, etc.)\nAdvanced Fuels (new compositions\, inherently safe fuels\, etc.)\nInstrumentation and Control \nResearch reactors and low power critical facilities\nEducation and training\nCommercial SMRs for electricity generation\nSmall reactors for remote locations\nAutonomous Control and Operation\nNovel Concepts \n\n\n\nAbstract Submission\nCall for Abstracts (PDF) \nAuthors should submit an extended abstract (two to three pages) with contact information\, via electronic mail\, to the Technical Program Chair\, Shuwei Yue\, (yues@aecl.ca).
